i brought a puppy a few months ago but recently found out that the litter was not registered with the kennel club this was because although the father is registered, the mother is not.

does anyone know if it is possible for me to register my puppy myself? thanks alot

No. Only the breeder can register the litter on the 'breed' register and then only if both parents are registered with the Kennel Club. This register is what most people mean when they refer to a dog being KC registered.

There is also a 'working' register where you can register a dog of any or unknown parentage, and this allows you to compete in obedience, agility, flyball, heelwork to music and working trials.

Forms can be downloaded from the Kennel Club site, and although you can actually register litters on this register, it does not entitle you to enter breed shows, or for any puppies to be registered on the breed register.

What breed is it, and why do you want to register it?
You could ask the breeder if it is possible to get the dam registered (although this costs �60 if they are over 12 months old) . The breeder may not have any details or papers for the bitch, in which case they will not be able to register her.

Thinking out loud, did you believe the litter was KC registered when you bought it? Did you buy it from an advert, and if so did the advert say that it was KC registered, as if it did then you have a case under the Sale of Goods Act.

Buyers beware, there is also something called the Dog Lovers Registration Club (DLRC), which accepts dogs of any breed, and any breeding, and issues registration certificates on payment of a fee. They do not have to be purebred, and you don't even need to know who the parents were, you just pays your money and gets your certificate. A lot of people have been fooled into thinking this means they are KC registered and are upset when they realise they cannot show them or register any puppies with the KC.
However, if you are planning to show or breed then you should have at least found out about the pedigree/registration/health check status of the parents.

I hope you have not been overcharged for your puppy what breed is it When I was looking for a lab pup one woman wanted to charge us �300 for an un registered pup the litter was not registered as the mother wasn't. We finally paid quite a bit more for a pup that is already regstered We fetched her last Saturday called her Megan she will not be able to replace Rosie but she is already making her mark. She likes gardening, stripping wallpaper but this is no more than we expected

So pleased you got what you wanted, I really meant for you to be careful about the puppy sales sites, but both the ones you mention are reliable and used by genuine breeders. You just need to have your wits about you when choosing a puppy, as you found out, some people just want to take your money and will try to sell you anything and tell you a load of bullsh*t.

The Dog lovers club only register Pedigree dogs i.e.purebreeds and they always ask for the breeders info if they are registering a single puppy or adult dog or litter , they don't register x breeds, also the mother must be registered with them before a litter is registered, they are not for 'show dogs'. and they DO advocate health testing where required
