Cutting cats claws
13 Answers
Recently somebody posted the funny story about clipping cats claws. I can't remember when it was and have been unable to find it.
Does anybody have a link to the web page that it is on.
Theoretically it should be an easy task, except that they have teeth and claws and can wriggle out of most grips.
Thanks
Susan

This is what I do with Sam, although having said that I'm lucky as he's such a dopey beast he just sits there and lets me do it - I've clipped his claws while he was sleeping before and he never even woke up!
My last cat was George too, he was also my first cat. I thought that cats were just small dogs. I could say "sit" and "stay" and get some sort of respect.
The first time I clipped his claws was a battle of hissing and spitting, teeth and claws flying everywhere. I had to go to the doctor for antibiotics when my hand started throbbing.
When I got the twins from hell I thought that I had it sussed. First time I tried to groom Merlin she bit me four times in the one finger. I went to the doctor again.
They are evil little creatures - they only LOOK cute.

I think that it was your post about giving a cat a pill that I was thinking about.
Claws - my two fight sometimes and one (the stupid male who starts the fight) always ends up clawed all over the face. I have taken him to the vet for infected wounds a couple of times and then I decided to clip their claws. So far we haven't been near the vet. Yet.
Maybe I should buy cat Savlon.

I read some of the stories and will savour them and pass them to my friends.
My monster Frankie is obsessed with trying to open the front of the central heating boiler. He manages to get it open so far and then it clicks shut again - he spends what feels like hours doing it. I chase him off but he just glares at me and goes back to doing it.
His sister is so good she's boring, all she wants is to be groomed and pampered.
Weird animals!

Kleiber - I agree with you, but my two cats have been known to have a punch up. Frankie usually ends up with a face full of his sister's claws.
I am fed up having to take him to the vet for antibiotics. Last time he was really quite sick with a high temperature before I knew that something was wrong. The vet knew what to look for - and found claw sized holes in his face.
Merlin (his sister) has a short fuse.
Most of the time they get on fine, but every now and then all hell lets loose.

Oh, bless! poor Frankie. Perhaps you could get Merlin a little pair of mittens?? I've got 5 cats & 2 of them hate each other, so I know what you're going through! One of those 2 even hates her sister, who's a lovely, laid-back puss & gets on fine with the others. They sometimes remind me of that old film "Whatever happened to baby Jane" (it's really old & no, I wasn't born when it was first out!!) By the way, one of my cats regularly beats up my border collie - he's terrified of her & won't walk past her. She's fine with my German Shepherd, though -odd, isn't it?
Frankie is a laid back tom cat - into everything and friendly and chatty.

Merlin is a long haired cat who likes to sleep and eat and do nothing else.

They were feral kittens, rescued by the Cats Protection when they were very young. They are full brother and sister but neither look alike or are at all alike in character.
Frankie wants to play and teases Merlin - who just tells him to go away. Eventually the claws come out and Frankie runs off to lick his wounds.
I used to thing that when they were running around they were playing and enjoying themselves. I think that Frankie is playing and Merlin is just trying to get away from him.
Luckily I live in a large flat which is over two floors. They can avoid each other when they want. Other times they are so friendly. They are typical siblings.
