Pet Passports
4 Answers
In anticipation of a move to Spain I want to get a passport organised for my 4 month old dog.
Vet says its easy she just need a jab against Rabies and a blood test in a months time to confirm it has worked.
However trying to do some research and people are saying she can't travel with us for at least six months after initial jab. Obviously I trust my vet but don't want to turn up at the ferry and the dog be quarantined.
Also what sort of costs should I expect?
Any one had any experience of this?
Thanks

I know to bring a dog into the UK it has to be microchipped....then have the rabies jab and blood tests, and more tests six months later. But I think if you are going abroad, and not bringing the dog back, you dont need to do anything, but I would check with defra, at least then you will have a definite answer.

Your dog needs a microchip and a rabies vaccination. One month after the rabies shot, she needs a blood test. The dog can then travel out of the UK once the blood test results are back, but she will not be able to re-enter the UK until 6 months after the blood test was taken (but I guess that won't matter for you!)
You should also check with the import officials in Spain to check that there isn't anything else you need before travel.
