what do you paint on a sawn tree trunk to stop it from growing
3 Answers
..I have a wild ash tree in my front garden really near to my front gate...I left it to grow for quite a few years because it looks really pretty, but know the housing association have decided to replace the fence and my gate is being moved further along, and this now needs to be sawn down, I am, responsible for doing this, it's not massive about 7 foot or so, because I can't get to the roots , what can I paint on the stump to stop it from sprouting out?....

Your right in thinking it's likely to sprout from the stump, ash are very good at this.
If it's only 7ft high, I guess it's only 2 or 3" across at the base.
Cut it level, a few inches above the ground and then drill a hole/s down into the stump approx 2" deep and use one of the following products that can be bought from a garden centre. 'Rootout' or 'Deeproot' feel the drill hole/s and cover with polythean and tie it on to stop it being washed out.
This will kill it slowly and surely. Good Luck. Tbird+
