Removing Bulldog

I have a limited time Bulldog security package pre-loaded on my laptop.

Would it be safe to un-install Bulldog, and then down-load the free AVG, or should I install AVG first before I un-install Bulldog?

I have been told it is not wise to have more than one anti-virus programme loaded at a time.

And what other security software should I down load please?

You should
FIRST Download AVG
SECOND make sure you are offline and uninstall Bulldog
FINALLY install AVG

You might want to also look at a decent firewall such as comodo:

if you fancy a change ... try avira ... it's getting excellent reviews in PC Pro, PCW etc - and is just as free

is loaded with vista.
which actually has it's own (pretty good) firewall ... but for a newb

zone alarm now have a free firewall for vista

you also need spyware scanning
ad-aware and spybot search and destroy.
will work alongside windows defender

your advisor was right ....only one virus - 1 firewall
but I'd always use more than one adware scanner
they only interfier if you run them together ... so keep them seperate

Yes my laptop does have Vista installed, does that mean I can forget about Zone Alarm if Vista has its own firewall? (since one can not have more than one firewall installed)

What is windows Defender, does this also come with Vista?

Defender is an ad-ware scanner - yes it's part of vista - no reason not to use it (still look at ad-aware and spybot - to run in addition)

Vista firewall - is actually a very good firewall - if you know what you are doing ...
what I meant to put was - it's not realy for newbs
zone alarm on the other hand learns as you go on ... the only "config" you need to do is "do you want XXXX to run?).
If you are cautious ... it's almost foolproof and very much easier
