cat affection
5 Answers
My cat isnt the most affectionate but when he greets me in the morning, if I put my face near to him he rubs his mouth on it although he also rubs his mouth on the furniture so I guess that its his way of dropping a scent on me. Does this mean that he isnt showing affection?

They have scent glands in the chin so he may be marking you as his property! However this could be a sign that your cat may be experiencing some dental discomfort, so may be worth getting his teeth checked out...............just in case. If only they could talk...............
Ah I dont think its dental discomfort as we give him his own toothpaste regularly and he has always displayed this. He likes to rube the corners of the walls and objects like cigarettes too and its only when he greets us after a while that he does this. It cant be affection if he is doing it on the damn walls as well lol
Hi F - As above - its a pheromone thing - he's marking you as territory.
Wild big cats do the same to reassert their space which is what the furniture thing is about in your place - not sure what the ciggarette concept is though.......does he aim to rub your face after a good bottom clean and a fag then?
Cats rule a house (people own dogs, but cats own people, as they say...) so he's just being natural..This might be interesting to you : http://www.messybeast.com/cat_talk2.htm
Ta for now..
