Out of interest i posted ..fish lying on the bottom of the tank..on Google, there are loads of postings. Seems your fish may be ill from lack of attention to its water ( high ammonia levels) or diseased. Why not change the water first and check with your local supplier for some medication
The amazonian Angel Fish (Pterophyllum scalare) is normally quite a robust fish though not the most active of fishes in a community tank...you should have a slightly acidic water pH and the water should be soft......try making sure you don't have any shells or suchlike in the tank and place some bogwood or peat in the tank to help soften it........the average angel is quite long lived at around 8 years so it could be diet....have you tried feeding bloodworms to you fish rather than just flake food? This can make a huge difference.

There might be several different reason. A lot of times if a fish doesn't seem healthy this might be due to the water conditions. Make sure you check your water chemistry regularly. However, from your description your fish might have a swimbladder problem. Media URL: http://www.cichlidexplorer.com/
