laryngitis in cats
7 Answers
Hi all :o)
My cat has completely lost his meow! I feel so sorry for him when he looks up at me opens his mouth and nothing but the sound of strained air comes out!
We took him to the vets a week ago who said he has laryngitis, he was given a jab and we were told to bring him back in a weeks time if there is no improvement. We took him back last night as he is the same and the vet said to leave it another 10 days and if he still doesn't have his voice back then they may have to do investigative surgery!!! Apart from his voice he is eating and fine in himself
Has anyone else's cat had this and if so how long till their meow came back? I can't bear the thought of my boy having surgery and I actually miss him meowing at me :o(

But can you send me some cat laryngitis for Frankie, please.
I would imagine that it would be strange with silence in the house - I get a running commentary on everything. He even follows me to the toilet and sits and talks to me.
I hope it all turns out well. I have never heard of it. The PDSA have an 'ask the vet' section on their website - maybe she can help explain it to you.

lol wolf I can understand where your coming from and for the first couple of days we thought it was quite amusing. I thought he would just give him another shot of antibiotics and say wait another week, I wasn't prepared for the vet to say he may need surgery as it could be something more serious (he never said that first time round!) :o(
Thanx for the advice about the PDSA website I may try there and see what they say.
P.s I think our other cat (his sister) is making up for his non meowness as I am sure she has got louder and like your Frankie she follows me to the loo and gets very vocal!

Oh wingnut I feel so sorry for your little fella, but I would not worry too much, one of my three cats had the same problem a few years ago and I got very worried it lasted all of four weeks but he managed to get his voice back by the way it took two injections. So fingers crossed for you and kitty, hope all goes well for him.
Hi garner :o)
Thank you for your kind words and well wishes for him, they have reassured me :o)
He tried to let out a cry earlier when he wanted fussing and there was a slight horseness sound to it, so hopefully it is on it's way back!!
He's 14 and was the runt of the litter so has a few deformaties, he is quite small about the size of a young cat. He has bags of character and is so cute that I just can't imagine my life without him or his sister in it (I know it will happen one day and the thought makes me fill with tears) I just don't want it to be yet or for there to be anything wrong with him.
Oh how they steal our hearts! :o)

Hi wolf :o)
He is a tiny bit better than he was, there is still no noise but twice now we are sure he let out a tiny cry but it was so quick that you end up not sure whether you really heard it or think you did because you are desperate for it to come back!
He is still fine within himself, eating and playing. Always the attention seeker!!!
I am keeping my fingers crossed that it is coming back.
Thank you so much for your post asking how he is :o)
I will try to update when there is an improvement :o)
