Digital tv problems - help needed
3 Answers
I have recently had a digital aerial and a Techwood hard-drive Freeview box fitted and for the first 5 days have been thoroughly delighted with it. However, some problems have ocurred which I wonder if others have experienced, namely:-
(1) The aerial is directed at the Wenvoe (Cardiff)transmitter and my aerial installer told me that Wenvoe were installing a new mast and that pictures on Channel Five, S4C and Five US and Five Life would be poor until the work was finished. Comments?
(2) The pictures are freezing and/or swapping channels when both being watched and when recorded - for example watching the Wales/Canada game yesterday after coming home the programme changed to the Formula One race several times during the rugby.
(3) Is there a reason why the channels on the TV are of a poorer quality than those watched on Freeview?
The aerial guy is coming out this afternoon to have a look at things and I would be very grateful for any comments on the difficulties I am experiencing to see if any others have had similar problems. THANKS

he digital cameras used are tiny ... and tends to be transmitted directly from source
when digital drops signal .... it freezez (unlike analogue which shows white noise) - then squares ... then white noise
similarly your digital TV is pushing 70+ chanels into the available space not used by the 5 chanels.....so signal strength needs to be prety good ....
your chanel banner should include signal strength so looksee.
If ppl are working on the transmitter the signal will be on reduced strength for the safety of the guys - (think of your microwave cooker).
finally all transmissions ate to some extent affected by rain ... and well you are in wales ......! <|:-)

Thanks for your comments but could you explain :-
(1) Why my picture freezes irrespective of what is being recorded or watched?
(2) My signal strength is very good and my location is very high up and unhindered by anything.
(3) There has not been any rain at all since the aerial, etc were installed.

I think a lot of your problems are down to the work being carried out
I have sky ... but my old mum has a freeview box ... and from time to time the freezey thing happens ... but not that often ... or for long.
different recievers will have different sensitivity but asking ppl in your area might give you some idea - tv reception is by transmitter ... and sometimes by street ....or even house.
the road next to mine still isn't on the freeview finder .... my nexdoor guy 's signal is almost at max
can't say it's not your box - or ariel ... but the ariel riggers use some pretty sensitive equipment to set up .... and they know their patch ...
