Line Source Sound & Propagation
1 Answers
I have read that five cars spread over a road 100ft long can be considered to be a line source when taking into consideration sound propagation. Firstly, if these five cars cover a length of 100ft, would the attenuation still be 3dB as the distance away from it doubles even after 100ft? In other words does the length of the line sound source relate to the distance away from it.
Secondly would a row of 10 music speakers spaced out over a 100ft be seen in the same way as the cars regards to the sound propagation?

with music speakers you need to consider retaining the 'intelligence' of the signal. Different frequencies coming from different point sources are prone to a mixture of reinforcement or cancellation across the listening area producing a blurring of the sound image due to the varying time delays (distance from) the different sources and aliasing as you move about the listening area.
