How long do phantom pregnancies last?

A friend of my thinks she is having a phantom pregnancy, she cant be pregnant as has just finished a period? How long do the symptoms last?

She hasnt taken a pregnancy test due to having a period. Not sure whether her period was normal, would this matter? She still had a period.

She says she has all the symptoms of being pregnant but doesnt think she is.

Why does she think shes having a phantom pregnancy? What are her symptoms and how long has she been having them?
Some women do experience spotting/bleeding early in pregnancy and mistake it for a period. Like red has asked, was her period normal?

Has she been trying for a baby? This sometimes brings on the symptoms when a woman wants it so bad.

Thats what I wondered Psychick. I know that she hasnt been trying as they are waiting till next year but I know she really wants a child.

She says that she has sore breasts, tiredness and general sicky feeling.

As I said I dont know about her period but will make sure to ask when I see her.

My good friend had a full period but was pregnant. This happened with both her pregnancies. With the second child she had a second light period too. Her due date was changed a few times b/c of this and was only accurate after they did those measuring tests to see how far along she was. Your frien should take a test ASAP.

i was speaking to my doctor the other week, as i thought i was pregnant, and i asked about phantom pregnancies. he said that he'd seen it with his own eyes, this woman thought she was pregnant and her tummy was growing and growing. (this is before scans were about). she got to 7 months after her last period, and anyway they were doing some tests for whatever, and they said 'you're not pregnant... theres no baby in here. and in the next few days she lost her tummy! true! wow!
