How do Emperor Penguins keep warm?
7 Answers
My 5yr old has been doing a quiz and this is the question we are arguing about. There are three options given:-
a. Huddle together
b. Dance around
c. Make a fire
I assumed it was a, as this was featured on Planet Earth series, but the quiz says its b, Dance around.

Obviously an error in the quiz.
The only possible excuse for choosing B would be that they take turns to be in the middle where it is warmest so the outside ones walk [waddle (dance?)] around to the back of the huddle so they can slowly melt to the middle.
But with the A option available surely that has to be the right option.
This huddling occurs only in the winter when they breed. Their feathering is so perfect at insulating that at other times they turn their white front towards the sun when out of the water to stay cool.
