Vaginal bleeding

I posted a question earier about irregular menstrual bleeding and thought I was approaching menopause since I'm 45. I took your advice and had tests done that prove I'm not in menopause but I have a small fibroid. Now I have almost constant bleeding. Doc gave me 7 hormone pill which worked the 1st time but I started bleeding again less than 2 weeks later. The 2nd round of hormone pills are not working. Does anyone have any experience to share with me?

I have endometriosis and one of the symtoms can be ongoing and / or irregular bleeding. The Mirena Coil has helped those symtoms such alot but beware .... in the first six months it can increase the bleeding so for some it get worse before it gets better. Still all said and done...I think the Mirena really does help alot.

Mirena was recommended to me by a good friend who is a nurse, she had no idea what she was recommending.... if I had bothered to research Mirena I would never have had it fitted.

Please, please read the above threads and their links before you make your own decision.

You are the same age as me now, so I'm guessing you no longer want children. You have a fibroid, they can remain dormant (stay the same size) or they can grow (which mine did)....
If you can persuade your doctor to recommend you for a hysterectomy I would advise you to consider it.

My consultant removed my womb, leaving my ovaries (as they were still functioning, and so I don't yet need any hormone replacement) and did the whole operation internally. No scar and quick recovery, less than 6 weeks and no long term affects as the muscles weren't cut.

I do accept and recognise that several ABers have had good results with Mirena. However, I still believe this coil has a high risk rate and would strongly advise against using it.

Thank you all for your advice. My doc has already told me I may have to consider a hysterectomy and I'm on iron pills due to my problem. It's been more than 25 years since I last gave birth, don't plan on doing it again. I guess it's that fear of diminishing my 'womanhood' if I get one of those parts removed. I suppose I'll have to get over that silly frame of mind.
