Animal Despisers
12 Answers
Why do so many people hate animals? I love all creatures (with the small exception of arachnids) and couldn't imagine my life without them playing a huge part. But why do so many people hate them? I understand maybe some people not really liking cats, or dogs, or horses etc but to say you hate all animals and think they are pointless, and serve no purpose unless we eat the, utterly confounds me! I just wondered if any animal despisers out there, could elaborate more on this for me? Maybe I just work in a particularly cruel, cold office.... :( *sniff*

The key thing here is respect for other peoples opinions. Your colleagues are entitled to dislike animals, whether you agree or not.
smithy...moonhead hasn't said that these people should not be allowed to dislike animals (there's no respect issue here), she just doesn't know why. I can see where you are coming from, but not all dog owners will let them foul pavements/gardens, ditto not all cats are outdoor animals, and so will not be able to scratch a car bonnet. It's not the pets that are the problem...it's the owners, so to dislike animals for doing what comes naturally seems a bit, well pointless.
I tend to not get on so well with folk who don't like animals.....like moonhead, I love all animals (despite being allergic to them) and just don't warm to people who say they don't like animals. They are missing out on a lot of positives.....pets can help you live longer by reducing stress, they are great for teaching young children responsibility, kindness, patience and can give you so much fun and love. But hey! to each their own smithy, you are absolutely entitled to dislike whatever you want. xx
Don't worry Moonhead - I'm with you on this one. I think the people who disregard animals are so detached from the natural world (WE are animals after all) that concerns like scratched car paint etc (what was it smithy - a tiger???) are bizarrely more important than the bigger picture. It's a symptom of capiitalist societies, and christianity doesn't help by maintaining that all other animals are secondary to man. We SHARE the planet with a multitude of other species and our arrogance and unfounded assumptions may well be our downfall. Yep, I prefer animals to humans. We are just the pits and frankly I don't see the point of the human race. But that said, I'm with smithy on the dog mess - but then again, that's the (human) owner's fault...

I agree with Elfin entirely. We are all animals after all. Humans have evolved to have greater brain power, but we should not use this advantage to harm other species. Love of humans and love of animals goes hand in hand - it's just a matter of respecting all forms of life. People that are cruel to animals will generally also be cruel to defenceless humans as well!
Noone is forced to keep pets and I respect people who don't want them. However, Smithy, I have had more harm done to the paintwork of my car by humans than cats - and, although agreeing with you entirely about dog excretia - human's create far more harm to the environment. I live on a main road through a rural hamlet and you ought to see what ends up in my drive, thrown out of car windows!!!!! Disposable nappies together with contents
are quite obnoxious. Dogs don't intentionally foul people's property!
yep understand all of your points and accept that you all love animals, and I agree that owners are to blame not the pet which is an animal after all. I stick by the fact that I am not a bad person because I don't personally like animals, nor are moonheads officemates evil because they don't, conversely not all animal lovers are beautiful kind honest people with a zest for life and their common man. sniff sniff .. me bacon smells done!...
