Would anyone out there have any idea where the stone for building the castle may have come from? My friend reckons her home in Paignton is on the site of a quarry and it came from there. It would have been transported about 6 miles. My husband thinks the stone came from nearer the site of the castle.

its built literally on the site where most of the stone was quarried from.

It was a medieval castle given to the Pomeroi family by William the Conqueror which was later turned into a tudor house owned by the Seymours. I think the stone was local for the castle, but the Seymouts probably added things from elsewhere.
