Russian Dwarf Hamsters
6 Answers
We recently bought 2 dwarf hamsters, we have had them for about 2 months and they got on pretty good, we heardthe occasional squeak from them. One day while cleaning the cage one was dead, when aking the dead one out there was blood on its head. I know that the have sharp teeth nd it may have been an accident while playing, or do they actually kill each other.

We had two dwarf hamsters and they were fine. I think you'll find it is traditional syrian hamsters who are solitary animals. So get your facts right pickle!! see site below for more details

We have two Chinese Dwarf Hamsters, both male and from the same litter. We got them as babies and they were both housed in the same cage (and it wasn't a small one either). It wasn't long before one got extremely vicious with the other (he made a particular point of targeting his rival's testicles!) and they had to be housed in separate cages. So I'm afraid it IS true that they fight.
I have never had two hamsters live together in harmony. I have had Chinese ones, Russians and Roboroskvis and they all fought once they matured and had to be separated. I would never ever keep two hamsters together again no matter what their breed. My sister had two chinese hamsters and one morning she got up to find one of them eating the other one - it was horrible.
I raise rats, mice, and dwarf hamsters...and to be honest i have grown to dislike my hamsters....when i got my male and female i loved them...especially when she had her first litter of babies.....i learned the hard way that you CANNOT keep all of them together...the babies killed thier mother and father and then the babies started killing and eating each other....even after i separated them and put them 2 to a cage....one would attack the other...we are talking about siblings that at been together since birth....I just took one more dead one out of a cage and decided the ones I have left are going to the pet store...that is if she would take the ones that have had thier ears chewed off by the others...I have raised other types of hamsters and NEVER had this problem....and no...i haven't been starving them ...so they aren't eating each other for lack of food.....if anything i have overfed them....I think i will stick to my rats....never a fight and the mothers are AWESOME mothers....not a cannabalised baby yet
