can cats contract foot and mouth disease?

Only affects cloven-hooved ruminants, which cats aren't so no, but I think they can transport the virus from one place to another.
Does also affect elephants and I believe hedgehogs. Also pigs, which are cloven-hoofed, but not ruminants -- so presumably also hippos, peccaries etc. But not cats, dogs, humans or horses. And yes, the disease can be transported in mud carried by animals, vehicles etc -- it's one of the most infectious diseases known.
