I must admit I have never heard of it before. One would usually expect the Swiss to be members of polite society.

If you enlarge the photograph it actually looks like "Bovine It's a Knockout"

Anyone had experience of this, and in your opinion is it cruel?

Do cows in a field normally do this or do they have to be provoked?

There are some weird games around:

This is pretty harmless, unlike some other 'sports' that include animals, and consists of pushing for a minute or less, rather than out and out fighting.

It seems this Herens breed do it automatically anyway in the spring to see which of the ladies will lead the others up to pasture.
well- you think you have heard of everything but there is always something odd around the corner.... but I guess what do you expect from the race that gave us toblerone and cuckoo clocks!!
Despite the name, the two animals in the picture are actually bulls, not cows!
Noweia- the one on the left definitely has udders.
They are cows, Noweia, although they do look a little lumpy!

The boys, in this breed are docile and the girls like to pack a punch. Feisty little ladies!
My bad - I totally missed the teats!
