Seeing In A Pickle's wonderful post about cats needing homes, I had a peek and immediately fell in love with a whole horde of the wee critters...... my two cats went to that great big hearth in the sky some ten years ago and I feel it's time I gave up my lap again.... except I no longer have a cat flap and since I am about to have new doors and windows fitted, I was wondering how easy it would be to order a new back door in pvc already fitted with a purpose made little cat door. I know I should really have put this Q in Home & Garden - Interiors or Property but I reckoned you fellow animal lovers might have more experience of cat flaps. Thanks.

Hi Juggles,

When I had my doors and windows down about 7 years ago the guy who did it put a flap in for me. I bought the flap myself and he just fitted it in. I think they are quite simple to do. x
My brother in law fitted a very fancy looking catflap to my sisters new front door, it was very simple to do..apparently (if he can do it anyone can :D )

thanks !

I didn't even know if one could get a pvc door with a purpose made cat door already fitted....

red - I came very close recently to buying a water dragon or a lizard but they aren't that good at cuddling cold feet or laps.... besides, nothing really beats a good old fashioned roaring purrring from a contented puss.... There is no way I am going back to litter trays... yuk.... poor puss and poor Juggs nostrils...
Aw! I think you're doing a great thing, there are so many of the little devils needing a good home! :O)
I live in a rented flat, so my kitty is an indoor cat by necessity. Plus, I would be too terrified of anything happening to her! But if you live in the country, or nowhere near a large road, then they would love being out and about. I'm counting the days until i can afford somewhere outside the city with a garden, so my little Jess can go out and explore! Cat flaps are very easy to install, I was told. The fact you are about to have new doors is a great opportunity! They will do it for you no problem. xxx

I am sorry I have no knowledge about this sort of thing but maybe you contractor or carpenter might be able to give advice or make suggestions on this. Hope you find someone helpful with a a good solution to your problem. All the best! x
When we moved into this house 2 years ago there was no cat flap but a brand new solid hard wood door, we fitted a good quality cat flap and have had no problems at all. If you can't fit it yourself please ask your fitters to do it for you it is a very simple job.

Many thanks for all your reassuring replies..... can you see it now...

Please Mr Double Glazing Salesman.... I need a quote for new windows (sash variety in pvc, double glazed etc etc) and a new back door but the most important bit is that the door has to have a cat flap prefitted (magnetic variety, two collars will be required and the spec will be as described below)..... lol

Oh and if the flaps don't work then I will send Marx and Engels around to your house .....they are ferocious and will probably gnaw your legs off....

Wow! That's a brilliant idea In a pickle!!!! I know for sure my jessie (Poopy, or Poops for short! lol) would not take kindly to a collar with stuff dangling off it...
Considering what she does to my washing. Or my xmas tree. Or my TV antenna (she just boke that one tonight)....lol
