Does anyone have any ideas of how to clean a sheepskin rug? We've just bought one and it strikes me that hoovering it might not work. What about washing them too?

Mine goes in the washing machine on the wool cycle. Clean the filter afterwards though cos otherwise it will be bunged up ! Ours gets washed a lot because our dog always has to eat his biscuits on it !
Don't hoover it as the wool will go around the brush ,as Jillus said wash it in the machine on a cool wash , but don't dry it in the dryer as the skin will crack , hang it out on the line . When it's dry comb it out with a wide tooth comb .
Hi legal girl, what an apt question. I have just been given 3 of them by my parents! All a bit old and musty....Washed them one at a time in the washing machine (I always thought that was bad, because of the lanolin in sheep's wool that keeps it soft, but apparently it's OK) on the wool cycle, like theonlyone. Plan to brush each one out gently and thoroughly to de-tangle! They are worth the care, I love them! Always wanted one, and ended up getting one in a charity shop when I moved. So I've a grand total of four now!!

Enjoy your new rug!
