Whether its the same breed or a different one they all have different needs and personalities. Some people cannot take on another when they have lost one, personally I could not be without one. You are not being disloyal to get another dog, and it may help you to get over the grief if you have a puppy to look after.
thank you both kindly for you answers. i cant think straight since i lost her. and felt i was going to be disloyal to her for trying to replace her. you are right they all have pesonalities of their own. i will never get another Labrador. does anyone know of a smaller breed who is as just pretty and so nice of nature that is a bit smaller. she was always being called pretty. i just couldnt handle her when she was ill she was a bit big for me to carry down the vets. therefor i feel i failed her..
Another breed, but smaller? Goodness, there's a question!
How about a cocker spaniel or, if that's a bit too big, an American cocker spaniel? You are looking for something not too big, but with the affectionate, faithful nature of a labrador. Well, apart from those, you could go smaller yet and have a 'lapdog' . There's umpteen small and toy breeds which were bred specifically to be companion dogs e.g. the Cavalier King Charles spaniel (don't know why I'm so spaniel- obsessed in this post, though I do have an American cocker :)) Then it's more a question of what look and shape you like, from the butterfly ears of the papillon to the moustachioed griffon de Bruxelles and from the longest haired to the shortest coat, and everything 'in between'

Oh bless ya ! I can tell by the time of your post that you were unable to get a good nights sleep. I know how you feel, I lost my best friend in September last year, he was a German Shepherd. I dont think i will ever get over loosing him but i now have got two that i really love soooooo much! I feel it was the best thing i did, it does help but does'nt replace. good luck. Sue
