I realise that this should be in 'Animals & Nature', but I just had to put "down" a family member: Jake the cat.. If you like animals as I do isn't the most depressing thing that you ever have to do? You live with them for maybe 12 years, and then suddenly they are not there!

Stewey - that's awful. So sorry to hear it. A friend of mine had to have her dog put to sleep today as well. It's so sad, because they ARE like members of the family - x
Oh dear. Did you have to have your cat put down, Stewey? Bless.

Don't know what I'd do without my wee evil fur ball, and I've only had her for 6 months. xxx
One of my cats is 17 now. I'm dreading the day...
And now I realise this may not have been the nicest way of expressing my thoughts...

I'm sure your moggie knew you loved her. Thankfully, they do not have the leisure of thinking about death the way we, humans, do. The only way you can show your love ultimately, sometimes and unfortunately, is by ending their suffering.

Bless you and your wee mog. My Jessie sends loads of pawings, lickings, and head-buttings! xxx

Still have two more 'kitties', but they are all the same age pretty much: it's going to be a bad year. Maybe it's best to not have pets........who knows?
oh stewey, I know how you feel, its so horrible, our tortoise died last week, he didnt survive hibernation, gonna miss him so much, and as for the cats I've lost:-( you never forget them, but you can console yourself by knowing that you gave them the best possible life they could have x
Sorry for you loss stewy but I just cant imagine what I would do without my little bouncer as he is my soul and The post that I have just done above you was done before I read this so sorry mate
When we have pets stewey, we all know that we're going to lose them one day. I hope it helps a little that you still have two lovely cats left. I'm sure they have a very good home and you give them lots of love x
Aw Stewey, you would think so, wouldn't you? when it's so terribly upsetting to lose one...But then, you have to think...what if you hadn't had them? So many animals are treated badly, and even, god bless...killed at birth, especially cats. She had a life, and she enjoyed it. Again, I have to emphasize the fact that they don't think of death. That's a thought that helped me cope before. At least she had a life, and a happy one at that!
Maz please shut up as you are making me cry now.
Sorry mean max not maz

stewey so sorry mate but I just do know what to say.
For once I am lost for words.
aww stewey he looks a bit like my bruno, bit of a bruiser but a real softy underneath, like I said, you miss them like hell, but always remember that you gave him the best life you could:-)
She (he?) looks just like my Lily. She died a couple of days before my 25th birthday. I had gone to the UK, leaving her with my very loving mum and step-dad. Unfortunately, some uncaring neighbour (I'd punch the lights outta them if I knew who they were!), fed her poison and dispite all the vet's attempts, she died a day before I came home for my birthday. We had to cancel the party, as I couldn't stop crying! My Jess (aka Poopsie!) is my first pet on my own. I honestly don't know what I would do without her. Despite the decision of whether or not to get a cat when I'm in a flat being a difficult one, she's soooooooooo worth it! XXX

This is my moggie, albeit only 3 months old as I don't have a blue tooth dongle for my phone!

Btw, Stewey, I'm planning a holiday to America and Canada next year, so keep your eyes peeled! ;O)

Oh stewey, I'm so very sorry for your loss :o(
I can't add to the kind words above, I just hope you can take some comfort from them.

I had one of my ferrets pts last year and was just blubbing inconsolable, I don't even know where it came from I just coulnd't stop crying and was so upset for days.
I also have 2 cats who I watched being born 16 years ago and I just dread that day which will inevitably come.
Widget is showing her age quite badly and doesn't even go out anymore but Del-Boy is still like a kitten & has always been quite small. He was the runt of the litter and is just bags of character (even won me some vouchers when I sent his photo into a gardening magazine of him sat in a plant pot)

They touch our hearts in ways that can't be explained and give us such love and joy. I'm sure your Jake was very much loved and you gave him a good life and home.

Take care xx
I'm sorry to hear about your cat - my George died in 2006 and I miss him loads.

Cats have such large personalities, they are never tamed and will never do what you want - it is weird how they manage to wrap us around their little paws.

Best wishes from Susan, Frankie and Princess Merlin send their love and hisses.
