Intruder - Updated!

Further to my previous post - and thanks to everyone who replied I thought I'd give you an update on the situation! The new cat flap arrived on Saturday and was fitted immediately.

When it came to bed time - it was put to the 'in only' option, checked, checked and checked again! Little Tigger was left in a bedroom all night so he didn't get beat up and a bowl of cat food was left in front of the flap to tempt the big ugly ginger cat in!

It came to the morning went downstairs - I kid you not the bowl of food was licked clean, no sign of the cat and cat flap now positioned at the 'in and out' option! We have a cctv camera facing the back door and this was checked straight away. The Ginger Ninja had entered the house at 3.06 am and left at 3.09 am - licked clean a bowl of cat food and let itself out of the locked cat flap in three minutes! Now either this cat has human help or he's been trained by the S.A.S!!

Last night we did exactly the same but this time sellotaped the little switch shut, checked the camera this morning the cat had been to the cat flap, looked through it and decided not to come in - it's like he's got a sixth sense!

We'll see what tonight brings ... but its beginning to get personal now!!

You could try putting one of those wire rat traps inside the door with the food in it, that shut down when the animal goes in. Once he is trapped it might put him off coming back for good. You can spray him with water while he is in there and then let he loose just for good measure. Mind he doesn't scratch you if you have to handle him or the trap.

As Lankeela says - you want to scare the **** out of the the intruder.

The alternative is to take Tigger for self defence classes.

We're trying to scare the **** out of it - the problem we have is catching it! Tigger's a wuss so don't think self defence classes are an option - but the idea makes me giggle!

I find the fact that you have a cat called Tigger who is a wuss. Reason is I have a dog called Tyson (we did not name, I might add) who is bone idle and is afraid of his own tail! The name says nothing!

Don't apologise it is quite amusing - although yes admittedly very frustrating! We think the Ginger Ninga belongs to some people at the top of the village but we're not entirely sure.

I know what you mean about it becoming wild - if it gets to the point where it can't get out the cat flap the room it'll be locked in is a hall way that's not very big. However, we'll probably go downstairs one morning to find a huge hole in the door where the cat flap should be judging bu the past performances we've had of tring to catch it!

It's really bugging my mam that we can't catch it but on the other hand she's quite relieved that we haven't yet cos she s***ing it for when we do - think we're going to have to invest in some riot gear!

My daughter is having similar problems with a cat. She recently installed a new catflap with magnetic collar keys for her cats which worked for one night until the intruder smashed his way in. He must have been a bruiser as the flap was in pieces.He also sprayed over a new sofa and the babies pram. The poor girl is at her wit's end. I do find your saga of the Ginger Ninja priceless, so keep it coming and I can't wait for the next instalment. Hopefully you will find a solution soon which in turn would help her.

You can get humane rat traps from most hardware/country stores, but they cost about �20. See if you can borrow one from a farmer, pest control bloke, or RSPCA officer, they often use them. Is there a wildlife rescue in your area, they may also be able to help.

Another idea is to pile up a load of pots and pans above the cat flat balanced on a board, so when he pushes the flap they all tumble down making a hell of a crash. That might scare the sh*t out of him.

My friend has the same problem - her cat hides when he hears the intruder coming in.

They are such complicated animals.

We have a humane rat trap - Anything bigger than a smallish kitten would fit in it! How big is this Ninja Ginger?I bet he is called Harry!!! (send him back to Afghanistan!)

Oh bless her, she's not ugly, poor little soul. I think she's quite a pretty little thing, even though she can't talk and, until she wandered off down the alley, I didn't think she could walk either.

Ginga Ninja - has he been around Leopardspot? Rather you than me. My friend's cat, Lucas, is so stressed out by an intruder that he has started spraying.

Poor wee Tigger - not even safe at home.

I'm dissapointed to say I've nothing to report - the Ginger Ninja tuuned up on Mon night at about 3.45am sat at the cat flap for a minute or so and then decided not to come in and he did the same last night but last night he came at 2 in the morning then again at 6am - he definately must have an inbuilt sixth sense or he's receiving tip offs!

I think the stance we're going to take now is to lock the cat flap to the 'out only' option so nothing can get in and when Tigger goes out for the night he can't get back in either until someone lets him in in the morning. We're hoping the Ginger Ninja will get bored and not pester us or poor Tigger anymore!
