we got a dog recently from the RSPCA and although she is house trained she will only do her no.1's and no.2's in the garden.Even first thing in the morning when she is desperate she will not do it whilst out walking but wait until we get back home in the garden. Any suggestions?

I have no tips or solutions to suggest, but I just wanted you to know, in my experience it did pass, so there's hope. Praise her every time she goes to toilet, and perhaps put a command to it, then when you take her out of the house, you could try taking treats, and using the command while she is out. MASSIVE fuss if she 'goes'!
It isn't a massive deal right now, but I know that you may want to take her for days out, if that's the kind of thing you do, and obviously she can't be crossing her legs all day!
Lots of luck, and a cuddle for your girl. x

We re-homed a Westie last year when she was a year old. Her previous owners told us that she also waited until she got back to her own garden to do anything.
Well, we have had her a year now and more or less the same pattern. She waits until she gets back to her own garden, unless she is at the park or a distance away from home.
I prefer it like that as I can go pick up her mess and dispose of it, knowing she has not done something out on the pavements without us knowing.
I don't see it as a problem as many dogs do this.
