Has anyone successfully removed 'horse splints' with the old fashioned method of goose fat?

Although I've not heard of that remedy, my grandfather, here in the ranch country of the western U.S., was a blacksmith and self-taught veterinarian of the old school, and often used a mixture of Camphor Oil and Sweet Almond Oil to treat splints. Seemed to work, but mild splints have a way of curing themselves. He liked the camphor since it introduced a warming affect to the sweet almond oil when rubbed into the trough between the cannon bone and the splint bones...he did teach me to detect the swelling and heat produced when horses experienced this type of lameness...

Best of luck!l
