Not sure if I should be concerned or amazed .I got a chicken for my sons dinner tonight and I put the vegies on and stripped the meat off the chicken . I cut the string that trussed it up off in one long piece and put it in the bin. Next I know the dog has eaten it , yes been in the bin and swallowed the whole string ! ( I refuse to help it out at the other end , so please nobody suggest that ) xxxxx

Time to worry is if he is constipated, bringing his food up, or refusing to eat, which would suggest a blockage.

Oh dear BM, whatever next?!

I'm sure it'll come out the other end naturally in the next couple of days, much to your & Porsche's relief!

As you know, our Milly loves chewing & swallowing long pieces of anything! She was choking again last week & was eventually sick. When I was clearing it up, I found a 5 " piece of flexible plastic garden wire curled round in it.

hope she is ok, it is a worry when they eat something they shouldnt. Sorry I said 'he', didnt realise your dog was a little girl.

My young man, who isnt a labrador, will try and remove chewing gum from the pavement. The girls have healthy appetities, but he eats his food more like a piranha. I really need to watch his weight, but if I cut his food down even a little bit, he thinks his throat has been cut and sits in the kitchen crying at the worktop, poor soul.

Yes jules , I've cut down a lot on her food and no treats lately to curb her weight , so maybe that's why she is trying the bin !

Oh mamma, that is so funny! I can imagine why you would be worried though. Just think in a couple of days, her poo will come wrapped in a ribbon for you!
Jack isn't too bad, he can't really get at the bin, although when we first got him, and we were in a flat with no internal doors really, we used to get up in the morning to find the bin entirely upturned, its contents strewn across the floor!
Labs have the constitution of an Ox, don't they? Which is fortunate, and possibly a evolutionary add-on designed to help them in their quest to eat EVERYTHING! :) I hope Porsche is OK, and am sure she will be.

And as for weight-watching, mamma and jules, how dare you subject those poor babies to a, a, a CONTROLLED diet! No wonder they feel so sorry for themselves that they have to search the streets and scrounge out of bins to get their daily bread! ;)

Awwww!!! I hope Porsche is ok! Our Greyhound that we used to have, ate a plate full of frozen chicken breasts one day, I'd put it on top of the microwave so I thought it would be out of her reach, went to the loo, came back and the plate was empty! I'd be gone all of a minute and the plate was clean, I'd only just taken them from the freezer so they were frozen solid! Oh, and there was my son's first birthday, put all of the food on the dining table, including his cake, went into the lounge to call people through, walked back to the dining room and most of the cake was gone, and I had a dog with blue icing all round her mouth! Lol x

My bin is usually left alone and I can leave any food or sweets around and she won't touch them , I still don't know why she got the string ...except that she adores chicken .

(I'm not suggesting that you go round after her, inspecting her poo!!!) leelapops, we're fine, thanks - Molly, my old ewe, lost a tooth yesterday - bad sign, she's 5 yrs old and when their teeth start to go it's the beginning of the end. She's a dear old thing - I hand-reared her when she was orphaned and she's so tame. The rest of the menagerie are good, although the rabbits are fighting again - they always do when spring comes, although they get on fine normally. I'm just waiting for my swallows to return -should be any day now, as they were back this time last year. K xx
