I've tried fly spray, ect but come nightfall and lastnights rain the little ******* come in thick and furious.boiling water was a short term solution but they still keep coming !!!
It sounds like a job for your local Environmental Health officer, contactable through your district council. They should have an emergency number. These sound as if they are coming in from something undesirable in your neighbour's garden. You should not have be left to try and remedy this yourself. Your neighbours will have to be approached. We had a similar thing happen when we lived in London. A neighbour was storing heaps of rubbish in a back garden and our whole area became infested. I do feel sorry for you and am sorry if some our answers appeared glibb.
Think I have the maggot problem under control now. Tried the salt, little suckers just glided over it.In the end(cover your eyes new forester)my husband zapped them with a blow torch so now they are truly at one with the earth !! As next door have removed the rotting rubbish that caused the problem we hope this is the last we see of them. Of course I could always send them round to new forester for tea and sympathy!! thanks for trying to help folks. Guichard
Actually, boiling water or blowtorch is not too bad, if you get them all at once -- they'll die instantly. What I was worrying about is pouring boiling water on the ground, and getting some-but-not-all, or, worse, half of one. Hooks likewise.
What you probably have (and I ought to have thought of before) is a dead animal, such as a hedgehog or rat, with mature maggots looking for somewhere to pupate. Remove the dead animal! But anyway, eventually there's an end to any supply of maggots -- they'll all be gone. Similarly if they are coming from a dustbin or something -- remove the source.
Bengals bug spray? Please- do tell...did it work? Tropical climates seem to hatch maggots in 24 hours. While my fighting fish loves to eat them, as do most my tropical fish, there are times I just want to stop them cold in their tracks- like raid does to a roach. I always say- make a spray that kills maggots and you'll be rich. So- where do you get that spray?
I know I wont get the best reaction to this - but for those who ever wondered...my 12 year old son has concluded= WHAT DOESN'T WORK :
Acitone, Paint stripper, phospheric acid, bleach, ajax, paint thinner, laundry soap, viniger, amonia, resolve, muratic acid, raid, wasp spray, WD40, liquid wrench, OFF spray, engine degreaser, oven cleaner, spray starch, spray paint, powdered oxi clean, xilene, brake fluid, stearing fluid, windex, 409. ultimately- we now empty the rubbish daily- but I still would like something other than feeding them to my fish...
