My Shopping Pet Hate
53 Answers
It annoys me when I do my supermarket shop and the assistant doesn't hand the receipt over, or she asks if I want my receipt. I always want my receipt, as it is sometimes wrong, almost always in favour of the shop.
Just a little thing, but an annoying thing. I occasionally shop at the local Tesco Express, and most of the assistants seem reluctant to hand over the receipt.
Anyone else have a shopping pet hate?

I have a strict compartment for everything in my purse and they always rush me into just throwing it all into my handbag and running away while still trying to pack.
I can't be rushed!!!!!!

I like that they ask if you want receipt because I know many scum that will take receipt and immediately throw it on floor as they get out of shop, so I think it is good that they dispose of it ok. I was in tesco last night and when I left the alarms went off I knew I had bought nothing with tags so couldnt be me. Security guard came over and I pointed out a couple that had heard alarm and were then running with trolley across car park. What amazed me was he went to them found an electric toothbrush with security tag still on, came back in shop to take tag off then went back out and THEN checked receipt. Like theyd still be there is they did nick it.
I work on a till at the Co op, and we HAVE to ask the customer if they want their till receipts! It aint our fault!
Next time you have a petty peeve think of the poor sod at the other end who has to look at your sour face when we ask you, the 100th customer of the day the same relentless question..."do you want your receipt?"

That is a good point 4gottenabout. I would hope that people who would do this are in the minority. There is a huge waste paper basket outside my local Tesco Express for shoppers to dispose of their receipts, so it is appalling if people can't be bothered to use it (and I think it must work quite well for this particular store, as I have never noticed any receipts lying on the ground outside the shop).
I am always keen to receive my receipt as I have had so many items wrongly charged. As mentioned before, I have yet to be wrongly charged in my favour. Sometimes my husband gets a bit miffed when I go back for my refund and he has to wait - I think he would rather just write the money off!

I hate it when people like MISTYS & CRUELLA stand at the end of the checkout poking little receipts and loyalty cards into little secret compartments;
i just think for gods sake get a move on
P's have you noticed how women always read the receipt and men just roll them up and shove them in their pocket/wallet

I always found Morrisons pretty good. Nice friendly chat. wait til you finish packing before asking for the money. In fact they don;t ask. They give you some credit for being smart enough to know its time to pay. I always get my reciept.
But they will keep taking off the shelves products that I like.

BOO, if I were you I would have a word with the powers that be to suggest getting your procedure changed. I think it is ridiculous that you shouldn't automatically offer a customer a receipt.
As I think has been mentioned before, what if there is a dispute over whether a customer has paid for an item? I recently bought 6 bottles of champagne when they were on half price offer from a large supermarket. Thankfully I was handed the receipt automatically (as I believe I always should be). Inside the packaging was some sort of theft device, which sounded the alarm bells as I walked through the exit. It should have been removed by the cashier, but it wasn't. What a palaver I would have had, if I didn't have my receipt immediately to hand, to prove that I had paid for everything.
What annoys me about my local Tesco Express is sometimes the assistant says absolutely nothing and makes no attempt to offer me my receipt. I have to ask for it. She doesn't, like you, ask if I want it.
Please don't take this personally, but I think that some shop assistants don't want you to take your receipt because if you don't check it, you won't be going back to point out any overcharging.
And just as a matter of interest, I have no intention of feeling sorry for you because you have to ask hundreds of times a day, if people want their receipt - it is obviously part of your job to do this - just like you would have to tell a customer how much they owe each time - and it's hardly like you have to recite a huge chapter is it?
