ear trouble - cats

hiya everybody. Got a question for you and would appreciate some advice! Maddy, our 1yr old cat has a yeast infection in both ears. We have been to the vets - consequently I have been cleaning (with special liquid) and putting drops in them twice a day - this has been going on now for three weeks!!! When we had Shaney (dog) he had an ear infection .Same sort of yeasty thing and no amount of stuff from the vet would clear it up .Like you I was nearly taking out a second mortgage ..someone on here recommended Thornit ear powder .I'm sure you can use it for cats too.Brilliant stuff ..cleared it up practically overnight .I got mine from EBay . It may help ..Just Google Thornit .

You are within your rights to find out from the vet if this condition should be cleared up by now - maybe a change to oral or injectable medication/ fungicide might be indicated. I would phone the vet to ask for some (free on the phone!) advice. Ask about the prospective costs & duration of possibly changing treatments. If the vet seems unwilling it may be because other treatments are harder to administer to cats or a lot more expensive.

This is not said to worry you and i am probably wrong BUT when our dog had this, looking back it was just before she got diagnosed with diabetes...same problem, it just wouldn't clear up but as soon as her blood sugars were controlled, it went away and only came back if the sugars went out of whack again. I know in humans that recurrent yeast infections CAN BE a symptom of diabetes so it might be worth checking with the vet that this at least has been considered and ruled out?
