Starlings/housemartins

Does anyone know the length of time between the laying of eggs and the young birds leaving the nest?
In one season, how many "families" do the parent birds raise?

Hi derrynoose, hope you can find all the info you need here, take too long to explain by typing, and it is clearer, we have house martins on the gable end of our house, they are such busy little things.

Have you ever seen the 'Starling ballet'? We have thousands of starlings here, and in the evenings they swoop and soar in a beautifully choreographed dance over the sea before settling for the night. It's an awesome sight.

Where is here with regard to the starlings- its unusual to have a starling roost at this time of the year when they are nesting? Or are you referring to the normal roost period of november through february?

With regard to numbers of broods- most of the smaller species of birds will have two or even possibly three broods during the nesting season. This obviously depends a whole lot on the availability of food and the weather conditions. Also a pair that have a nest destroyed by predators will more than likely move and start another off.
