Whilst walking with my friend last week on the North Yorkshire Moors,we came across little green boxes with what looked liked crystals inside, covered with a cloth, and each box was anchored in by four stones. Does anyone know what these could be?

I don't thinkit is likely that they were geocaches. Geocaches tend to be tupperware type boxes and would usually be hidden from sight under a stone or something. And geocache boxes always contain a log for geocachers to sign, even when they are teeny-tiny. They very often are marked on the outside of the box 'Geocache. Contents harmless'.
I think you have stumbled on something quite odd, who knows, maybe there is a coven there!

Yes, we work in mysterious ways! Lol. x

It appears they are grit for the benefit of grouse. It is part of their diet and sometimes they are medicated to rid their stomachs of worms etc.
