They assist the vet in surgicval proceedures, as well as carrying out basic treatment proceedures which do not require a vet's expertise - teeth treatments and so on. This is not to denegrate a veterinary nurse's skills, and qualificiations - they do a valuable, and often unappreciated job for relatively low pay.
They basically do the same job on animals that a medical nurse would on a human.
A very worthwhile and admirable job imo. Thumbs up to ANYONE in the medical profession - human or animal.
