To everybody, I'm so sorry my question, which was intended as a serious enquiry, has caused so much trouble. I'm pretty new to Answerbank, and having such a wide base of knowledge available appeals to me immensely, but to have caused so much aggravation (especially to alfieblue) has made it really apparent that this may not be the forum for sharing knowledge that I thought it might be.
The reason I asked the question is that I was watching Amazon to Andes on UKDocumentary when I posted the question. I know that there are several species of flamingo and that the Romans did indeed view the tongue as a delicacy (these were presumably the flamingos seen in the Camargue region of southern France). However, many flamingo species have evolved to fit niche environments such as the Andean volcanic springs which are highly saline. I wondered if anybody knew for sure if this affected their edible/inedible status, and also if the low oxygen environment had affected the muscle composition ?
Thanks anyway guys

Questions like this can often take a turn for the nasty, especially in animals and nature where people are passionate about their subject. I ridicule this to stop that happening. I dislike seeing good sections ruined so I occasionally attempt to contain the madness. I also don't think you were being ridiculed.
I do give sensible and concise answers in this section if it's a question I can answer. As I already stated, this is usually bug related and I wouldn't take the rise from a sensible question . However I will not take a question meant to stir seriously and will treat it in the same vein it's asked. If humour stopped this thread becoming argumentative then all the better and I won't be appologising for it. I believe if more people did this then we wouldn't have half the venom that floats around the site at times.

Mr_Cheesy - do me one favour! Look through past questions and answers (now i hav cooled down a bit i am thinking straight!).
You will see that there are many good people who ask genuine questions and get genuine answers. It is such an interesting section - please do not be put off. You will gain so much from everyone - I learn something new every day and I very much enjoy chatting to other nature lovers. Don't give up! Alfieblue :o)
