Dog attack

My dog was attacked by another dog while I was out walking him. This has happened twice now from the same dog. My dog was on a lead this dog had escaped from its garden and ran off and attacked my dog while I was out walking him. I reported it to the police as my dog has been injured and hat to go to the vets and have treatment. I have now been left with a bill to pay for �45. The police have said if I make a n official complaint it will have to go to court. At the end of the day all I want is my vet bill paid and an apology. The owner saw what happened and did not check if my dog was ok or apologise at the time it happened. The dog warden has been to her before and she still does not control the dog properly. The police are trying to get me to drop the complaint and for them to send round the dog warden for a quiet chat. I dont know what to do I dont want to be horrible about it I just want my bill paid and for her to control her dog better. I am scared to take my dog out now incase it happens again. Plus it has left my dog in a right stressed state he is shaking all the time and does nothing but whimper and cry. It only happened a couple of days ago. Anyone got any advice on what I should do.

You really have no alternative but to pursue this via the police. This dog is obviously dangerous and without proper training and control will continue to attack. I think you can kiss your money goodbye but you must prevent this dog attacking again. Next time it could be a small child.

I'm with Cazzie 15 on this one, if the person in question has not done anything the first time around when she was approached about the nuisance dog i think you should go ahead with the complaint, obviously its not the dog's fault it is like this its bad training or lack of in this case, hope you get it all sorted and hope your wee dog gets over this trauma

Thanks for answering I have been told in the past that it has attacked other dogs and has also tried to bite a woman that ran past the owners property one morning but neither of them have made a complaint about the dog. I am just really worried my partner thinks we have to pay to take her to court and we cannot afford to do that. I can see her saying that it's not her fault that the dog keeps getting out and the magistrates will let her get away with it. It's just lucky that I did not have my children with me when this incident occured. God only knows what might have happened.

Dog on dog attacks are not covered by criminal law - unless you can prove that a human was put in fear of being attacked themselves. Hopefully, legislation passing through parliament will address this and make it easier.

I fear that the only redress you will get is throught the civil courts but this may cost you.

Its a shame that your walks are being halted because of an irresponsible dog owner. Hopefully a word in their ear bt the dog wardn will do the trick.

Watch the Dog Whisperer on Freeview. The unruly dog is protecting what he thinks is his territory. Best you don't walk you're dog by that unruly dog until you know how to deal with it.

I dont walk the dog near its territory I walk it away from where it lives. I was at a different part of the village from where it lives and it was roaming around free and attacked my dog for no reason. I have just found out this morning that it has gone for two other dogs while it has been left to roam around. Why should I have to keep my dog in on the off chance that it might be out loose again. Is it going to take for that dog to actually bite a human before something gets done about it. Dogs can feel pain as well as humans and right now because of the wounds this dog has afflicted on my dog he is in a lot of pain.

This happened to me twice, the first time I followed the dog to its home and remonstrated with the owner, they basically weren't bothered.

The second time, when it started to go for my dog, I kicked it up the ar$e (not hard enough to hurt it), but I didn't see it again.

I could not even attempt to kick the dog off as the first time it happened it tried to bite me as well. The dog warden has been there before and given her a warning to keep the dog under control but she just does not listen.

Was there a witness with you or around at the time of the attack. That could certainly help. I suggest speaking to a lawyer you can get your first consultation free and see if there is anything else that can be done.
I really don't like people who have pets and then don't seem to care, like this owner, Grrrr!!

If you don't pursue the incident via the Police you will feel really awful if, at a later date, the dog attacks again and causes major injuries.

Some times when dogs attack they have been provoked and are retaliating in the only way that they know how. But this appears to be a bad tempered dog.

It has upset both you and your dog, it isn't a first incident, you did nothing to provoke it and you were no where near its territory. It isn't really an incident that can be ignored.

I hope that your dog gets his confidence back soon.

Firstly I do hope that your dog gets over its attack quickly and gets it confidence back,
That woman does have a responsibility to keep that dog under control and that includes keeping it in a secure garden/property, it may not be the dogs fault because it is nasty and protecting its "patch" but there is no room in the world for nasty dogs or incompetant owners who are not even fit to keep fly's never mind a dog ,
I Would not hesitate in attacking a dog with a stick or my boot if i felt it was neccesary, .....

It is your responsibility to ensure the police deal with this owner and dog , do not let them play on your soft side by suggesting it may have to be put to sleep, if it tried to bite you then it is a dangerous dog , end of ! you know what you have to do ,

Thanks all for your reply's the police are dealing with the matter. I have since found out that there has been six complaints against the owner so it looks like it is going to court.

My little whippet was attacked and badly bitten last week. The dog in question is a
Mastiff X and is known for being vicious towards other dogs.It jumps up the fence of her house as you walk past with your dog, barking and snarling really bad. She has been asked to keep it away as it is frightening people, children especially. But she
exercises it over a public right of way. This area is used by dog walkers. This was where I was when it grabbed my dog. Police were informed and said they would have
a word with her and request muzzling and keeping on lead. Promised to report back to me. Still waiting.

there is sometimes 2 sides to a story my dog is the softest best behaved dog i have ever owned 6 children were in my house rolling over him all he does is lick them yet whilst playing in the park with another dog a women entered with 2 small aggresive dogs mine and the other dog ran over to her she screamed dragging her dogs up into the air like a piece of meat swinging one on its lead my dog jumped up and noone new what happened my husband recalled my dog the women put down her dogs and walked away sh has since acused my dog of attaking hers started a petition trying to turn all our neighbours against us not telling them the situation of her actions the rspca called and said our dog is of a gorgeous temprament and agreed that 9 out of 10 dogs would have jumped up at a screaming women swinging a dog in the air .we now keep him on a lead as he is large yet ther small snappy dogs of the lead run at him barking and then they give us the looks its a joke one ran and bit him on his back end twice but because they are little dogs apparently thats ok !!!!!!!!!
