Lost pet Husky sold to new family after 7 days

This lost Husky was sold on by an animal recovery firm after 7 days. The owner is distraught. He did everything right and reported his dog to the warden/council. Yet still they sold the dog.

What a terrible situation to be in for everyone!

The new family want to keep the dog, the real owner wants his dog back.

What would you do in this situation?

I wonder who owns the dog legally? The woman bought the dog in total innocence.

I know if you buy a stolen car then it is returned to the 'proper' owner and you loose out, I suppose a dog being classed under law as an item of property that the same would apply? But then this dog was not stolen, it was lost.

I suppose it is a good case in favour of microchipping.

If the 'new' owner were any sort of animal lover surely they would want to return it to it's original home!!!!! Haven't time right now to read the whole article....but maybe the 'new' owner is just happy that they've got an expensive breed at cut price!!!!! will read it properly when I get back from work.....

how can it be of a significant loss? Its only a husky. They are not loyal. they kill for fun and they would lick burglars to death and watch you get beaten up and just stand there wagging their tail.
No brainer for me. I think the new owners should be happy they dont have to put up with the devil hound.

I am an animal lover though. I have 3 mongrels, a labrador, a ferrit and a parrot. But these dogs should have been left in the wild. It would be like having a fox as a pet. They are useless. If they got hungry enough thery would kill their owners to and kill their own puppies for fun.

They are the dogs of satan. Hell hounds. Evil Vermin.

If you poured holy water over them they would dissolve.

They represent all of what is bad in humanity.

a sad story, but a much loved family pet (regardless of value) ought to be microchipped and registered.

My dog was sold on after being lost for 2days. My vet told me the kennels that held it. All happened 10y ago. It was chipped!

The kennels said "I was neglectful in losing it". Since it was an Irish Wolfhound it would have attracted a handsome 'donation' from the new owner.

Solicitor advised me not to take a Charity to Court, too expensive; would raise the charity's profile for more donations from unsympathetic people.

I now only keep mongrels and dogs given to me!

Losing the dog by accident,or losing it because it should go back to the original owner is one of those situations that require the wisdom of Solomon to decide.If I were the judge in such a case,I think I would base my descision on who had experianced the greater loss......the financial one ..or the emotional one?....tho the original owner ALSO had a financial investment in his pet....far greater than the new purchaser. And if the descision is left to the 2 owners...then surely the moral thing to do is return it? Their attachment can't be equalled to that of the original owner.

If I bought a 'new' dog, and found out it had gone missing in these circumstances, as in, accidentally, I would feel morally obliged to take it back. Knowing how much I love my dog, and if the same happened to me I would want to be treated that way too.

It's a toughy though, no?

The simple fact of the matter is that this dog was wandering the streets without any collar or tag and was not microchipped. It was taken in by a concerned member of the public who called the dog warden. It was some days later before the owner reported it missing, it was not matched to the dog collected as the finder had not described the dog as a Husky!!!! The dog stayed for 7 days at a rehoming shelter before being placed up for adoption in line with policy and procedure. If the dog's owner was so concerned then why was his dog roaming the streets without any i.d. and why did he take days to report it missing , and why did he not ring around the animal shelters???????? The first thing any loving dog owner would do is ring around the local animal shelters??? Irresponsible dog owners are the reason why we need dog wardens and how on earth do you manage to lose a Husky anyway...if it runs off then run after it??????
