I've found an egg shell in my garden and want to know it it's the moorhen's that is nesting in one of our trees. They have nested there before and raised one chick last year, We also have magpies nearby and I want to be aware so we can keep an eye out for when the chick or, hopefully, chicks start to use our pond. The egg is about 1 1/2ins by 1in and is a beige colour with various shaped/sized brown speckles.

YES! that's it exactly. Thanks very much yogasun, I never thought about going on Google images - duh! That's good news, it will be exciting to watch out for the babies. I'll put extra food out for the adults. We're on Magpie alert too now. Thanks again
