A Jack.
or sometimes Sid hehehe had too much beer today rofl
Buck.
I thought it was a leverit, or similar, (probably spelt wrong)
A leveret is a baby hare. I was going to say buck.
definitely buck. confirmed by dictionary.com
Mrs Cheeks Less of the beer young lady! lol' We have loads of hares in our garden. I don't know if any are called Sid though.
I can back up the answer Jack with webster's dictionary: www.webster-dictionary.org/definition/Jack But we're probably down to regional differences. Buck is certainly the term for male rabbits and having searched the web a bit I can also see that it's commonly used for the hare as well. Then you get some countries referring to their hares as Jack-Rabbits and it really starts to get confusing!
rofl nice reply annie xxxx
I'd say jack too -- but I think it's a mistake to expect one right answer in this sort of case (as with the "proper" collective nouns for various animals). As RogerK says, there are bound to be regional differences, and good dictionaries are descriptive, not prescriptive: they give the words real people do use, not what we all should use. Buck & doe are used for a lot of animals which are smallish and rabbit- or deer-like, so they would work OK for hares in areas where there isn't a special word. Richard
