I'm so grateful for all your lovely replies. Wolf, I know that Frankie & Monty had a special friendship and I, too, just can't believe my little lad has gone. He was so young - if he'd have been an old cat, then I could've accepted it better even though that would have broken my heart too, (honkytonk, I feel for you as well). The vet said he was doing fine last night, but this morning his electrolyte levels were all over the place and the reason she didn't ring me earlier was that she was fighting to save his life and she didn't want to leave him. She said she didn't know why this had happened and she'd only known of one other cat like this and he had feline infectious peritonitis (there's no preventative measures we can take against that and there's little likelihood of a cure). I was offered a post-mortem, and half of me agreed that it would be a good thing, because then I'd know why he died and it might help to prevent this happening in another cat. But half of me said, "no" - I just wanted to bring his little body home to bury. I'm so sad - he was born here and he wasn't really meant to stay, but he did and it's such a shame that he was only with us for a short while. There will always be little ginger paw prints on my heart. K
