Has anybody heard of this happening before.

I got in from work a few hours ago and my 6 year old golden retriever seems to have developed what I can only describe as a sort off a twitch in his mouth.
I can only describe it as like somebodys teeth chattering but his whole mouth does it and it only lasts a few seconds and he has never done this before.
He has done it 3 times in the last hour now. He has always been in good health and has regular check ups at the vets.
Any ideas please. Cheers.

This can sometimes be a sign that the dog has got worked up over something, and we have had one hell of a storm. They don't necessarily have to be frightened of thunder and lightning, but just the atmospheric pressure can set them off.
Of course it could be something as simple as a loose tooth
or something stuck either between his teeth or in the roof of his mouth.
Another common cause for males is when they smell a bitch in season, and they do a 'Hannibal Lecter' chattering their teeth in excitement.
If it doesn't stop then I would get the vet to check his mouth.

Thanks lankeela yes he hates thunderstorms and has got more worse about them as he gets older what you have just said describes him well.
Knowing him I did think it was a nervous thing but got a bit worried about it as he has never done that before.
I have found him a little distresed before when I get in from work when there has been a thunderstorm but not like him doing this and he is very prone to atmospheric conditions he can sence them to much.
Thanks for putting my mind at ease I did think on the same lines as you and you have backed my thoughts up now.
Oh well he's happily chewing on a chewy stick now
Thanks for that
