hiya. i brought 2 cats end of last year and recently i fitted a cat flap.Other cats keep coming into the houseand now one of the cats has started spraying. Im not sure if its one of my cats or one of the other cats that keep coming in.do you think it could be my cats feeling threatened by the other cats?should i get rid of the cat flap? anyone got any ideas? thanks
It is a good thing for a cat to have a flap, especially if you are away for any amount of time. I understand that it is possible to get one that has an electronic device that opens the flap from a signal on a special cat collar. Expensive probably, but should stop other cats coming in.
Cats can be stopped making a mess with lots of pepper, but if it is indoors, it may not be so easy.
I use a magnetic catflap where my cat has a collar with a little magnet on it that opens the flap for him only. The only problem would be if the other cats have the same catflap because it would work for them too in which case you could get an infrared one. Both are available from Argos and pet shops
Another remedy - expensive but it definitely works - is to get your wee darlings microchipped and then fit a cat flat that only allows your microchipped sweeties into the house....
I adopted my cats (18 months old and 8 years old) and they had both been microchipped by the pet rescue centre they were from. The cat flap cost about 100 (just google microchip cat flap) but since then I've had absolutely no bother from other cats. In previous times I've installed cat flaps that used magnets but since the cats I had then were forever losing their magnets, it cost me a fortune to replace them. I reckon it cost me over 200 just in replacement magnets as well as the cat flap whilst this solution has only cost me 100. The other advantage is that if my cats get lost, any rescue centre or vet can scan them and contact me to come collect !
i have just had a cat flap put in and i am having exactly the same problem. I spoke to cats protection and they said a cat either comes in 4 sex, fight or food. i have started to feed my cat upstairs now and i must admit the problem is not as bad. i found cleaning it with washing powder in hot water 1st then leaving it for abit and then cleaning it with disinfectant helped to get rid of that awlful smell!
If you catch the cat coming in, which i did on several occassions try spraying it with water!
Somebody also mentioned to me about using white vinegar.
Hope that helps abit.
If you find out anything thing else could you let me know pls
Thanks
