I posted earlier in the week about my friend who has left her dog alone athome for 2 weeks with just a neighbour popping in to feed her and take her for a walk.

I have had her for a week and she has had a lovely time but i have to take her back tomorrow as I am away on sunday.

I feel so bl00dy sad that I have to take her back its making my eyes well up every few minutes.

I know this is of no use to your friend's dog for the next week but you should be proud of yourself for caring. At least she has had a lovely time with you. I too felt my eyes starting to leak when you described how the dog was being left home alone like that ! Some people should not be allowed to live with dogs and cats in my opinion...

Thank you for understanding. Even sadder she is such a sweet old dog - I have got so attached to her and Pickles is so good with her too.

I am really amazed my friend has done this.
Oh Sally ..don't upset yourself .You've done your best .More you cannot do .
To be frank I think your friend should be ashamed .Especially in view of the fact that she is an old girl . It's a bit like leaving your elderly Mum who is on her last legs and bogging of to let her fend for herself .I couldn't do it .Take heart in the fact that you have done your best .

Thank you shaney - your comments have made me feel better. She is curled up at my feet snoring at the moment - funny my friend said "she never comes in with us in the evening".

I will leave her with a cushion she has been sleeping on here and some toys. I wish I could have her next week as well.
I've got 2 house cats and i get distressed going to work and leaving them alone for a few hours, Don't know how anyone can leave any animal home alone for long periods of time. All my friends have dogs and when they go away, the dogs always stay at a friends house, they would never dream of leaving them alone. I wish i could take the poor thing in.

I totally agree with you. I have sorted Pickles (my dog) out for next week with a friend and if she couldnt have her I wouldnt go away.

Thank you all for being so kind x
Oh, sally, you're so kind, having done that for her - I'm sure she's appreciated you! I'm looking after an elderly retriever for a friend, from tomorrow till Thursday. He's met my two and gets on OK with them (Elsa's so sweet, she'd get on with anyone and Jake's just such a nutter, but hasn't got an ounce of malice in him!). He just ignores the cats as well, so I'm sure he'll be fine for the few days I've got him. I've got his vet's number, though, in case of emergency. K x
Sally, she has had a great week withyou, which she would't have had if it wasn't for your kindness. Dont feel sad, I know you did all you could to get her fixed up for the remainder of the week.
Like the others I feel your friend should have made better arrangements for her. I am sure the neighbour will do her best to look after her.
I would guess you will worry about her all week, but try not to. You have been a little star for doing what you have and you can ask no more of yourself.
Take care. J

Oh dear am filling up again because you have all been so nice and kind.

Your right I will worry about little Emma but at least I know my Pickles will be ok.

I will keep in touch with Emma big time and have her over to play whenever I can - she is my friend for life and my little shadow!
Have a great holiday and try not to worry to much about either dog. But please can you let us know how you get on when you get back. take care xxxxxxxx

Thank you lilacben and I promise I will keeo you posted. Will have to say somthing to my friend but dont want to fall out with her.

Hard to know how to approach it x
Just a thought - although the dog will probably be fine in its own home - could the friend who is having your dog also take this dog for the week? As they get on so well it may not be any more bother to have the two of them. At least you could rest easy then and enjoy your holiday.

Morning kita

I did think of that but as she is old its a big responsibility for my friend.

I feel like sh!t today as Emma is being so sweet and is so happy to be here.

Its a nightmare.
Sally, Emma will be in her own homeand being an oldy she will probably sleep a lot. Try not to worry too much while you are away, she will be fine for the few days
that are left. Hugs to you Pickles and Emma. I am off to take my own reprobate for his morning walk.
I also think that you are a great friend for what you have done, please be a great friend to this poor dog by making the RSPCA aware of his situation, old dogs can and do very often get sick quickly, and while I know that someone is coming in to him to feed etc, what happens if he gets sick during the night? I myself am looking after a 14 year old Lab at the moment for a friend, the poor dog had a very upset tummy the other night and although not serious if we hadn't been here she would have wandered around in the mess all night long, I spent the night downstairs and each time she needed to 'go' I was there, old dogs can go down hill very quickly, I think your 'friend' is terribly irresponsible.
Question Author
I think she will sleep a lot cos she has had a busy week with us.

I dont think I will phone the RSPCA BUT I will be talking to my friend and saying that its not on to leave her like this. If I can I will always have her here in future.

God I am going to miss her little face and wag.
can the person who is looking after her for the second week not have her at their house? Even if it's just for a few hours at a time.

Lisa x
Sally, how were Emma and PIckles after your holiday?
Question Author
Hi Rosetta!

Pickles had a great time with my friend and was thoroughly spoiled!!

I spoke to my friend who has Emma and said i didnt think it was right her being left. She assured me that Emma was walked twice a day by the neighbour and was better off being at home than in kennels. I have offered to have her when i can in the future.

One good thing to come out of this is that having been with us for a week, Emma now sits in the lounge with my friend now and soeant just spend nights in the kitchen!

Am hoping to see Emma for a walk next week - have missed her funny little face!

Thank you for remembering and asking after her x
Hope you were able to relax and didn't worry too much about them.
Should have asked first, did you have a good holiday?
Ive just taken Tim out for a short walk, he was giving me pleading looks. THe crossed legs were a bit of a give away LOL
Thank you for your reply.
