Hi, After much thought and research we have decided on getting a Doberman.
Were not sure if dog or bitch would be better.
Any advice would be appreciated...

If you can be a 'dominant pack leader' he would go for a dog but they require a lot of training time and would need to be shown who is boss. A bitch is a lot more biddable. His main point is that you would need to go to a very good breeder and see both of the puppy's parents (if you go for a puppy) Hope this helps

Bitches are always easier.Any bitch of any breed can be difficult but that's because of her owner not because of her being a bitch! That said, a dog is more likely to fancy himself as the leader in the household than a bitch is, and to that extent the bitch is easier for anyone to handle and get to settle into not the thinking it's the boss of the house . Dogs present other problems too, obviously: they are more likely to wander, more likely to get into fights and more likely to mark their territory (including your furmiture and walls, if you're not careful) than any bitch. A bitch is more of a home body. and more tractable than a dog (She'll only try to get out when she's in season, so watch that!).
Find a reputable breeder, make sure all health checks are done, and take the breeder's advice on a dog or bitch, not all bitches are easy going and more laid back, sometimes dogs are just gormless lumps who are prepared to be the 'underdog' in the family, provided they are given leadership.
A good breeder will know they lines and whether the dogs or bitches are more dominant, and how they would suit your lifestyle.
