Loud insects

Does anyone know the name of an insect in Spain, that lives in the trees usually by pools I think, and it makes a really loud high pitched noise when its hot.....
I think they fly/jump and are around the same size as a grass hopper..... TIA

It could well be, although I thought they were a bit lighter in colour. Its very difficult to see them properly. The description sounds about right though. Thank You

Rosetta's right, they're Cicadas. They occur worldwide. As to colour, they range from black through brown, yellow, and green.

could hear them in the south of france but everytime we tried to spot one they'ed instantly shut up rub their legs together.
