Peculiar behaviour by a cat ?

When the time signal comes on the radio. You know the 5 pips then a longer bleep.
My cat suddenly pays attention and on the long bleep opens her mouth wide like a big yawn but no noise ?

Any ideas why ?

My cat is very vocal at different sounds too.
Your cat thinks this is a sound it associates with in the past maybe? The mother of your cat, or another cat invading their territory.

My cat sometimes does that-where he opens his mouth but nothing comes out.
I sometimes think he looks like he's in pain-I always thought it was because he could here a sound that we couldn't!? Not sure though.
