not if they have grippy soles, if you were to fall off and the boot tread caught in the stirrup, you could be dragged along which is dangerous.
I would wear a stour pair of shoes, but as woofgand advises, nothing with a deep grip which may catch.

At a push, you could probably get away with trainers since you will most likely just be walking your horse. Most trekkers are new or inexperienced riders who don't have proper kit.

Why not call the people you are trekking with and ask them, just to be safe rather than sorry.
Try 'stout' shoes - even better!!!!
Having helped on treks in the past I agree with the others. Unless you are riding regular the cost of riding boots is not justified. Good shoes, or even trainers, will get you by. Be careful not to allow the horse to step on your toes though, they have a wicked sense of humour!!
Yes I Agree With The Answer About Wearing Trainers But Not Wellies.
Trainers aren't good as they have a continuous sole/heel and your foot can go through the stirrup - much better off to find a pair of flat shoes or boots with a slight heel. Or try E-Bay - you might be able to pick up a very cheap pair of boots or jodphur boots there. Have a good time!
I rode for years in wellies with no problems. My legs were too fat for riding boots and I could not get on with short jodphur boots or shoes.

Just make sure you place the foot properly in the stirrup with just the ball of the foot on the bar.

Thanks everyone for your help

I have phoned up the riding company and they have allowed me to wear them.
