Mountain Gorillas
11 Answers
i consider myself one of the lucky few who have seen mountain gorillas in their true habitat, after falling in love with Gorillas in the Mist (Film), it was something I always wanted to do, I eventually went last year with my hubbie and combined this wth a Safari trip mostly around Uganda with the last three days being in Rwanda. This certainly wasn't a typical holiday it was hard work exhausting, quite tiresome on an evening as nothing to do and couldn't go anywhere without a chaperone, has anyone else experienced coming face to face with mountain gorilas, or how do you fell about the politics, threats and lifestyles that are bringing the number of these remarkable creatures into decline even though there are many trust set up to help them.

Coming face to face with a silverback after trekking up a mountain/volcano is quite breathtaking, frightening, but never to be forgotten

I bet you travelled in a car as well. Further contributing to the deterioration of the landscape and culture. All this just to see a gorilla because you claim you are an animal lover? Did you buy one of there hands so when you get home you can put on the bacon, get drunk and use the gorilla hand as an ashtray?
Monkeywiener, new to the site are you??
I got up for work this morning had 3 emails which were personal 2 from you or rather the answer bank telling me you had appropriately made comments (not) and one from
terambulan, who has her opinion but obviously was brought up with manners about how they express their opinions.
Working in a very demanding job in hard times and a rough climate like all other working people, I parked your wicked pathetic uneducated views to the back of my mind until I returned home which was an hour ago.
And then felt ready to deal with you.
Firstly how on earth do you think I got to Africa, do you think I walked?:???, have you never flown? and if not are you sure that is not fear and not your love of the climate.
And ever so sorry to disappoint you but NO, WE CAMPED THE WHOLE TIME, IN EVERY LOCATION, so no hotels there, altough camping in the middles of the Qe National Park with no boundaries except natural ones to all forms of creatures is rather fearful. To cover the whole of Uganda and Rwanda on foot would have either killed us or left us with rather short legs, so in answer to that "Statement " we were took as a group of 12 by jeep throughout the country, and buy a hand as an ashtray, how dare you, you are filthy disgusting and because you have seen the film of gorillas in the mist, or something which makes you believe you have a right to speak to me like that in a blog, i would love to sit opposite you and discuss this further and i know who would come out feeling like an idiot and it would not be me.

think you know it all, your full statement buy a gorillas hand get drunk fry the bacon use it as an ashtray are you sure you are on the correct site, pervert weirdo, the money from gorilla passes is very expensive and pays for the rangers and trackers to keep these dangered species alive without this money they would be extinct. The land is taken by the multitude of the population eating into their land using it as farm land, having children is something these people are proud of and a big family means success, although to the Gorillas it means less land to live in, I have never ever in my life been so disgusted and outraged, by something such as you, if you dont work hard enough to afford this kind of trip to help to prolong the lifespan of this species go on a different site and seriously have a wordwith yourself!! And yes I am an animal lover you do not know me, have no idea what charities I give my well earned salary to. Also what I do to help animals in my spare time and how much I detest things like yourself,
Hi terambulan, your opinion is yours I appreciate that, I must tell you though that I contribute quite a large sum to the wwf every month for tigers, elephants, my money to help the grilas goes to a different charity and please understand without these very well planned, thought out and organized trips with forbidden rules a time limit etc etc, the money from the gorilla passes is saving lives. The Congo is a different matter it is dangerous does not have habituated gorillas, they are poached and on the decline as well as both British and American civillians taken hostage and murdered within recent years, that is why as a responsible animal lover and adult I spent months planning the correct trip, making sure it would be as safe as possible for both humans and primate, they have very strict rules regarding, if you are ill, you can not even if have paid for it use your pass, toileting, looking into the gorillas eyes, time spent once found (max one hour) and that is only with the habituated ones not wild, do not run, carry food etc etc, whether absters agree or not I honestly promise you this was something I spent a lot of time planning and I know my time there helped not only the animals but the Bwindi orphans and more and more, to anyone who can afford this, read up on it look at the internet, you willbe saving these magnificent creatures lives not wiping them out.

sounds like I struck a nerve. By calling me a pervert really does interest me greatly. It means that basically you dont really have a leg to stand on and just throwing wild accusations. I hope you get banned for that because I dont like been called a pervert. look you might as well have gone to a zoo. or just been happy watching the film itself. if you have to go see them in the wild, damaging the environment andcausing the local community to be badly effected just to give yourself a good feeling then thats not nice. And you are not a good person. will you be going swimming with dolphins next?
