Generally 15 to 25 years, but they can live much longer. One old pony near here is apparently about 45, and 50 or more is not unheard-of.
My friends horse was 35 before it came to the end and she was riding up until a few days before and it thoroughly enjoyed the hacking out.
I think the record is 62. Red Rum died at 30; Seagram died at 17.
I'd say it largely depends on the breed. Native ponies such as the Shetland and New Forest tend to live longer than the more delicate breeds i.e Thoroughbreds, and 'man-made' breeds, as they have evolved to cope with harsh conditions and are therefore hardier.
