This is difficult, because it is simpler to train a dog out of bad behaviour if you catch him in the act. Dogs are not capabale of understanding that they are being punished for something they did several hours ago, when no-one told them off at the time. If your dog is being destructive, he's probably bored. Arrange access to as much space as you can, ideally including outside via a dog-flap, and a secure run poen in your garden. Otherwise, is their a neighbour who can take him out a couple of times for a walk - hw will spend the remainder sleeping. This is trhe best way to prevent future bad behaviour, but try not to be corss with him for what he has already done, he'll simply be confused, and the puinishment in terms of prevention will be pointless.

If you can get hold of a large bone which hs no marrow left in it & stuff it with his favourite treats so that they are difficult to remove, this should keep him busy for quite a long time & will relieve his boredom. You can buy one made of synthetic rubber at pet shops. I think its called a Gonk or similar..... Spinner.

Mottsie, The best way to prevent your dog from getting in trouble while you are away from the house is to to put the dog in a crate. I've had dogs for years and the crate is a surefire way prevent trouble.
