Is my cat pregnant?

About 8 months ago we got a new cat who was 18 months old and spayed. We saw no evidence that she was spayed but were just happy to give her a new home.

Tess used to love going out but for about a month she hasn't been out. She'll go to the door then come back in. Blamed it on cold weather.

Yesterday she stopped spending any time with the family, has barely ate and looks totally different. Had a look on net and her symptoms are consistent with a pregnancy or phantom pregnancy (which apparently is rare).

Gonna see how she is tomorrow and take her to vets. What do u guys think?

Was she from a cats home who told you she was spayed, but you were not sure?

If she is not eating and not herself, I would take her to the vet.

No, was going to go to cat shelter but then heard of someone who was moving and were having to get rid of their cats. To be honest, when i went to collect Tess the whole thing didn't seem right and since i've had her she has changed so much. She's much happier.

Since then i've taken in a kitten who i spent time bonding with before i brought her home. I don't really know what kind of life Tess had before i got her, i just know she is not herself.

You've had Tess for 8 months - has she been "calling" at all in that time? i.e. has she been meowing a lot (for about a week or 2), craving affection and off her food? If so, she's been in season and is obviously not spayed. If she hasn't "called" then you can safely assume she has been spayed. You probably know this anyway. You say she looks "different" - how? If you're anything like me, it'll be difficult to put your finger on, but you know when your cat isn't "right". I think you're right to take her to the vet and I wish you the best of luck. Please keep us posted as to the diagnosis, won't you? K xx

Thanks Kleiber. We got another kitten at xmas and since then Tess has been more affectionate and meowing more but i just figured it was attention seeking.

Woke up during night and she seemed her normal self again but this morning she's gone back to how she was yesterday. She's just lying on a shelf with this look on her face (can't describe it, sorry) whereas usually she'd be playing or stretched out on the top of the tv.

She ate her breakfast this morning so hopefully she's just been a bit under the weather. My partner is going to take her to vets this afternoon whilst i'm at work if she hasn't improved.

Thought i'd let you know, Tess is ok. Took her to vets and they couldn't find anything wrong with her. Over the weekend she's slowly got back to her normal self. Phew
