The RSPB have recognised 36 birds that have an immediate threat upon them as their numbers dwindle. There are some surprising names on the Red List, which comprises those 36 species whose populations or range are rapidly declining, recently or historically, and those of global conservation concern. Several common, but rapidly declining farmland birds are included on the Red List, such as skylark, song thrush, and tree sparrow. Some of these species are also declining across Europe.
